DELIVERING Music Education to Youth.
RESPONDING to the Next Generation of Musicians.
FULFILLING Our Promise to the Community.
Beginning with our youngest audiences, Cleveland Orchestra Miami education programs seek to inspire music exploration in youth. For preschool and early elementary children, our engaging Musical Rainbow concerts take the audience on a musical journey through the exploration of musical instruments, one-at-a-time, with programs such as the “Fancy Flute” and “Clever Clarinet.” Audience participation rules the day in these introductory programs!
Learning Through Music, The Cleveland Orchestra’s school and community partnership program, brings musicians into area classrooms and community centers in support of educational goals.
Daytime School Concerts, with distinct programs for elementary students, are performed by The Cleveland Orchestra in Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center each season. These popular fieldtrip concerts are supported by a host of preparation tools, including curriculum-based Teacher Guides, Score Student newspapers, and a special CD to help teachers prepare students for the concert experience. In advance of the fieldtrip, curriculum-supported teacher training is offered, and a comprehensive in-classroom teacher guide with curriculum-based materials designed to prepare the students for the fieldtrip are shared with each teacher attending the session. More than 3,500 from the Miami-Dade County Public Schools attend the program annually, free of charge.
The Miami-Dade community is rich with opportunities for youth to advance their orchestral performance craft. Because Cleveland Orchestra Miami allows for the regular Miami-Dade presence of the musicians, guest performers, and conducting staff of The Cleveland Orchestra, many opportunities for masterclasses, seminars, working rehearsals, student composition reading sessions, coachings, and private lessons have been cultivated. Through partnerships with the New World School for the Arts, the University of Miami Frost School of Music, and the New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy, the artistic assets of the Orchestra are deployed across the Miami-Dade community.
Miami Music Association, the support organization dedicated to fundraising for Cleveland Orchestra Miami, makes possible the Orchestra’s education concerts and service to the Miami-Dade community through partnerships and important collaborations focused on youth and families.
Guided by the Miami Music Association and its Miami-based board of directors, Cleveland Orchestra Miami serves 20,000-plus adults and young people annually through a variety of concerts and community engagement activities created for the Miami-Dade community. These include a full season of four weekends of subscription concerts as well as free education concerts for more than 3,500 elementary school students at the Adrienne Arsht Center’s John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall, and numerous educational partnership activities with the University of Miami Frost School of Music, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and other community partners.
